Using the CEREC imaging machine means that you are only in the chair for as little as 45-60 minutes for the first part. There’s a break out of the chair for up to an hour, then you’re back for another 20-30 minutes to have the crown fitted. Lots of our patients fill the break by booking their regular exam and hygiene so that everything is done in one day.
It is so important that a crown is made for the tooth soon after root canal treatment. Our dentists recommend that fitting the crown on is not delayed. The crown has the crucial job of protecting the weakened tooth from fracturing in the future, and it helps to minimise the chances of re-infection by creating a seal around the tooth.
Your new ceramic crown may initially feel a little strange in your mouth as your teeth adjust to the new sensation, but this passes quickly, and it is normal to feel this! There may be some numbness due to the local anaesthetic, but this wears off quickly also. We remind patients to be careful, don’t chew on their lips or cheeks during this time and avoid eating hard or sticky foods for around 24 hours, so you don’t disrupt the bonding process.
